Summer Review

It’s Saturday night and I just made pancakes on the BBQ for dinner which we ate on the back deck. They were pumpkin spice pancakes from Costco and we all agreed, they were amazing. Maybe it was the BBQ, maybe it was the pumpkin spice, maybe it was the cool evening air but they were the best pancakes ever.

I am just sitting watching the kids jump on the trampoline and thinking about the last few months. I am also sitting with my emotions of anticipation for the new school year. I remember being a kid at the end of summer feeling so mixed up; wanting to make the most of every moment left of summer and feeling bad if my time wasn’t spent doing something epic but also just wishing the new school year would arrive because anticipation is a tough one for me to spend time with.

There is this pressure within me to make the most of every season. But sometimes pumpkin spice pancakes on the BBQ are making the most of the season. Sometimes days at the beach where no photos are taken is making the most of the season. Sometimes watching TV all day because we can and soon we will need to wake up and head out, is making the most of the season.

This summer was full! Full of little people who remained me how to have fun by riding water slides. Full of new projects and new responsibilities. Full of planning. Full of van rides and snacks. The full of the summer is about to spill over into fall. The adventure continues, I don’t really love to think of it as the end, you know?!

The adventure continues and the journey takes a new direction and I am grateful. I will do my best to sit in the anticipation for the next few days and enjoy how we make “the most” of this part of our adventure in this season.

xoxo
