How You Talk To Yourself Matters, Especially When You Fail

Big question for you, have you ever set a goal for yourself and failed? Have you ever set a goal for yourself multiple times and continued to not reach the goal within the timeframe you set? Ok, if you answered yes, will you please send me an email and share your story with me, what did you do?

I am in a season of growth and reflection. I have been setting a goal for myself repeatedly since March and I have yet to achieve this goal. Now, on the road to this goal I can see that I have made progress and I feel good about that. I will also be honest and say, I have questioned my own abilities to achieve the goal. Here is where I am choosing to land and focus my energy moving forward, I have some work to do on my self belief and worth. If I am honest, I doubt my worthiness of achieving the goal and that doubt clouded my action and so I didn't act like the person who could achieve the goal and so I did not achieve the goal, do you follow? Do you feel me on this? I am capable of achieving the goal, I chose not to achieve it. That is a hard pill to swallow. Now I could self shame but instead I am remaining in learning mode and gratitude for this realization along the road, its all part of my journey.

Yesterday I was listing to a Leadership Masterclass with Jamie Kern Lima in the Growth Day app and she was sharing about the rejection her brand faced (IT Cosmetics) as they worked to be represented in Sephora. Sephora rejected them for 6 years before the they decided to sell IT Cosmetics in their store. Through every trial Jamie framed her setbacks with a positive mindset - not yet.

Are you in a season of “not yet” the Bible says Jeremiah 29:11 New International Version 11 For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.

The Lords plans for our life are good! Good does not mean easy. The Bible also says Romans 5:3-5 NIV Not only so, but we also glory in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.

This scripture breaths hope and belief into the vision for my life and the goals I set for December and entering into a new year. The failures + development of character + perseverance, are all part of the journey and God's plan to develop me and you. The journey is not meant to be easy. You not hitting a goal within the timeline you designed does not mean you are not capable of achieving the goal, maybe God has something else for you to learn. Do you trust Him enough to keep going? Do you trust Him enough to honestly reflect where you need to grow? Do you trust Him enough, to believe you are worthy of achieving the dreams He placed on your heart?

I am choosing belief + hope and allowing that to fuel my action as I end November and plan for December.
