Heal Fight Or Flight

Have you ever found yourself in a cycle of fight or flight?

I have been there too.

I didn’t used to be “emotional.”
I was dysregulated.

For years, my nervous system lived in fight or flight.

If my husband gave me feedback — activated.
If I saw something on social media — activated.
If my kids were unhappy or something felt imperfect — activated.

There was no real danger, but my body didn’t know that.

My nervous system interpreted opposition as a threat.
So I either emotionally collapsed…
or mentally tried to escape the situation.

And here’s the hard truth I had to face:

When you live in fight or flight, you become a victim, not because you are weak, but because your body cannot create progress in survival mode.

You can’t think clearly.
You can’t lead yourself.
You can’t build, grow, or move forward.

Healing my nervous system changed everything.

And it wasn’t one thing.

First, the Lord healed me.
I learned, deeply, that I am seen by the Most High God.
Not evaluated. Not tolerated. Not barely accepted.
Seen.

When you truly receive His love and salvation, your body begins to stand down. Safety enters your system.

Second, I started moving my body consistently.
Not for aesthetics. Not for punishment.
But to release stored stress.

God designed movement as a way to discharge cortisol, regulate emotions, and restore the nervous system.
Exercise became obedience, not vanity.

Third, I nourished my body.
Years of stress deplete hormones, minerals, and cellular energy.

A well-functioning body burns fuel.
A high-performing vehicle needs high-quality fuel.

Our food supply is no longer nutrient-dense enough to restore a depleted system on its own so I supplemented intentionally. Not temporarily. Intentionally.

And here’s what most people don’t want to hear:

If your body has been living in fight or flight for years, healing takes time.

There is often a long season of restoring and nourishing before you feel dramatic results.

And then you don’t stop.

Because healing isn’t something you visit.
It’s something you maintain.

Today, I don’t collapse at feedback.
I don’t spiral at imperfection.
I don’t live in reaction.

I have capacity.
I have resilience.
I have peace.

And that didn’t come from trying harder.
It came from healing the system that was running my life.
