The first step in starting a blog is creating your website or setting up your blog platform.
There are so many blog platforms to choose from but I am going to just share two. These are the two blog platforms that I have used in my nine years of blogging. I started on the free Blogger platform in 2011. Over the last few years I have started to grow my personal brand and wanted more options for page organization, page linking, design and e-commerce and so I have switched to Squarespace.
Before you start your blog I would give some serious consideration as to what you would like your blogging to evolve into. If you want to blog for a hobby, meet new people and converse about topics of interest than I think Blogger is an excellent platform but if you want your blog to evolve into a business I would recommend Squarespace or a website platform with blog capabilities and flexibility.
There is some momentum I lost when switching my platform and I am trying to move my content from my old platform to my new platform but it is an extremely timely and emotional experience. It’s like sorting through old photos, I can’t just move content I need to soak it all in as I transfer it over because it’s stories from my life from the last 9 years.
If you have any questions about setting up your platform, choosing a blog name or registering a domain, comment below. You will also want to subscribe to my newsletter, just pop your email address in the box at the bottom of the page. I offer a social media video training series to everyone on my list and will always provide a full playlist so you can catch up on videos you have missed.
Blogging is an amazing way to connect with others, be creative and build a business. I hope this post helps you get started on your blog.
