Find Your Groove

What’s your groove? My groove has changed so much since my fitness journey started in grade 10. The number one thing I have learned through it all is that perfection does not exist. Perfection doesn’t exist and neither does balance and missing a planned workout day or eating McDonald’s doesn’t mean I am done for a year. Each hour of every day I have so many opportunities to makes all kinds of choices. I try to make good choices and fuel up on good things and power my spirit and mind with information that will lift me up.

The community I am building around movement, nutrition and wellness has nothing to do with losing weight and going on a diet so if that’s what you are looking for to kick off your new year, you probably won’t be satisfied there.

What we are trying to do is build sustainable habits that also offer space for the ebbs and flows of life. Some seasons require different things from us and shifting your time and focus is only being responsible. Trust you will find your way back and keep your eyes open for the opportunities in schedule and resources to open up. To me that’s mindful living.

It has taken me 15 years, an eating disorder, depression, anxiety attacks, three pregnancies a lockdown and moving through one pregnancy to get my mind right around wellness.

I am going to have a baby in March and my routine will probably go out the window. I won’t be able to workout until the doctor gives me the ok and that will be dependent on how my labour goes. I am ok with that. Today is a gift, my body can do some awesome stuff today and so I will move and celebrate that! I will also give her as much grace as she needs after giving birth and during nursing and trust that I will find my way back.

I think finding your groove is being confident enough to shift and change and keep moving through the imperfections of every day life in place of being so rigid not allowing for new opportunities and routines to take shape. Finding your groove comes from within, it’s a confidence to move where and when you can and be so satisfied with what you have accomplished that you look forward to what tomorrow holds for you. There is no shame in that groove only enjoyment of the journey because without the journey there would be no growth.
